Virginia "Dusty" White

Virginia Dustene White, known as Dusty, found peace with the Lord on April 29 at the age of 71 after a long illness. She was born May 13, 1945 to Claude and Frances Young.

Dusty was a hard worker with a strong resolve and a tough and independent spirit. She graduated from college with a 4.0 GPA, majoring in math and chemistry, as a wife and mom with two young children. She went on to a long career in computers, working for IBM and medium-sized manufacturing companies in Michigan and Texas. She was very loving and generous to her family. She sewed to relax, making beautiful and elaborate quilts, costumes and outfits for her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, April (Thomas) Thomann of New Jersey; grandchildren, Lillian Thomann of Syracuse, New York and Peter Thomann of New Jersey; sisters, Sandra Young of Alamogordo and Dickie Jean Chandler of Farwell, Texas; brother, Lawson Young of Alamogordo; brother- and sister-in-law, Bob and Kitty White of Alamogordo; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew G. White; daughter, Wendy Sharon White; father, William Claude Young; and mother, Frances Carlie Young.


Services for Dusty White will be held at Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, May 11 from 5 to 7 pm. The funeral service will be Friday, May 12 at 10:00 am followed by burial at Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Pastor Billy Tucker will officiate.
