Thomas W. Pennington, age 73, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 17, 2017 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Tom was born January 9, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Otis Odell and Charlene Pennington.
Tom retired from the United States Air Force in 1985 after serving 21 1/2 years. He went to work for Lockheed Martin and Dyncorp an additional 22 years, retiring in 2007. At one point in his life, Tom enjoyed golf and karate. He had a soft heart even though he didn't always show it. One day he came home with his shirt and trousers covered in black dirt. He had been in a storm drain rescuing kittens. Another time, at his cousin's house in Sequin, Texas, he rescued a little girl who had slipped into the river. Tom enjoyed watching football on TV. He also played football in high school. Tom had a love for the church. He enjoyed singing in the choir, men's Bible study, and giving a helping hand if needed.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Pennington of Alamogordo, NM, his sons Mark Thomas (Jacqueline) Pennington of Rapid City, S.Dakota and Mitchell William (Matilda) Pennington of Albuquerque, NM.; 2 granddaughters, Amber Anna Hue Pennington of Rapid City, S.Dakota and Joceline Kershisnik of Albuquerque, NM.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother Charlene Edith Kincaid Mariner, his father Otis Odell Pennington, and his brother Michael Pennington.
A memorial service will be held at Eternity Baptist Church located at 1205 25th St. in Alamogordo on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Ft. Stanton National Cemetery. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to Amber Care Hospice or Beehive Home, both in Alamogordo.
