Teresa Edwards Obituary

Teresa Esther Edwards, 70, passed away on September 1, 2025 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She was born on February 25, 1955, in Sidney, Montana to Lloyd and Rosalie (Deshaw) Wick. She grew up in Sidney, Montana, and graduated from Sidney Senior High School in 1973. She attended college courses at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana until 1980 when she accepted a job with Shell Oil Corporation at the start of the oil boom in eastern Montana.

Teresa’s career in the oil and gas industry started out as a long-shot chance for her. Women were not commonly associated with the oil and gas industry in 1980, and Teresa faced an uphill battle to prove that she was more than capable of the job. She started out as a field hand in eastern Montana and ended up as a production supervisor in the Permian Basin of New Mexico after forty years of hard work, dedication and personal sacrifice. During that time, she worked in the Gulf of Mexico on offshore oil platforms where she was the first woman in the company to do so, and she was especially proud to learn how to be a crane operator while in the gulf. She proved time and time again that she could pull her own weight and stand on her own two feet to get a job done. Later in her career when she was serving as a supervisor her dedication to the people whom she worked with was often at odds with the corporate agenda, but Teresa never forgot where she came from and what it took to get to where she was. It gave her a unique perspective and wisdom that was invaluable to the people she worked with. She served as a mentor to many, and believed that success came from being the best version of yourself that you could be on any given day.

Teresa also had a deep love and reverence for the land, animals and people. She came about this honestly, through her upbringing on the farm & ranch that her father built. Working beside him, she learned what it meant to honor, respect and love the land and the creatures upon it. She was a superb horsewoman and was especially fond of dogs. She had a knack for picking up the smallest of signals and being able to respond to them with kind firmness which led animals to trust her. When it came to people, most who knew her respected her strength of character and blunt honesty. She did not sugarcoat her opinions but underneath the bluntness was genuine care and concern for her fellow humans. “She was the best of us,” her brother said.

Teresa is survived by her daughter Sarah Wick and her fiance Paul; her brother Kenneth Wick and his wife Daun; her brother Thomas Wick and his wife Linda; her sister Catherine Berglund and her husband Ronald; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins spread across the states and overseas.

Teresa was preceded in death by her father and mother, Lloyd and Rosalie (Deshaw) Wick; her uncle Casper Wick and his wife Viola; her uncle Eyvind Wick and his wife Francis; her aunt Lenora Wick; her uncle Larry Deshaw and his wife Betty; her uncle Bill Deshaw and his wife Clara; her uncle Bob Deshaw and his wife Mary; and her uncle Dan Deshaw.

Teresa was cremated in New Mexico and her ashes will be interred with her father and mother in Montana at a later time. In lieu of condolences, her daughter asks that friends who wish to do so make donations in Teresa’s name to cancer charities that further cancer research.
