Ruth H. Wood

Ruth H. Wood went home to her Lord and Savior on February 6, 2021 at age 90 in Tularosa, New Mexico. Ruth was born on October 26, 1930 in Socorro, New Mexico to John and Frances Elizabeth (Burris) Harris.

Ruth met her husband, Joe in 1948 in Socorro, New Mexico. They married January 27, 1950 and went on to have four beautiful daughters, Frances Yvonne, Mary Louisa, Paula Doreen, and Margaret Allene Wood. Ruth and Joe settled in Tularosa, New Mexico in 1953 where they raised their girls, became loving grandparents, great-grandparents, and great-great grandparents. They also “adopted” Vicky Vallejos, Mary Rickerts, Ray and Denice Manley, Charlie and Susanna Marquez.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Ruth also loved to serve in the Catholic Church at St. Francis de Paula in Tularosa. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.

Ruth joins her father, John Earl Harris, mother, Frances Elizabeth (Burris) Harris, husband, Joe Pete Wood Jr., brothers Edward, John, and Doug Harris, and brother-in-law Ralph Wood in Heaven.

She is survived by her four daughters, Frances (Jimmy Grinder), Mary Lou (Paul Martin), Doreen (Vaughn Teel), and Margaret Wood. Her sisters-in-law Yvonne (Harvey) Hinkle, Bonnie (John) Harris, and Frances (Hank) Wood, brothers-in-law Jimmy (Pam) and Hank (Frances) Wood, cousin Cloma Jane Beanblossom. Her nine grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin (Jacquetta) Grinder, Brian (Julie) Grinder, Stacie (Nathan) Fuchs, Catherine (Evan) Staeden, Jody (Paulina) Sidwell, Vonda (Rankin) Frost, Ara (Earnie) Campbell, Matthew Novotny, and Kelsea (Ron) Henry. Ruth and Joe have sixteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by friends Marian Porter, Faye Lisk, Freddie Nowell, Evelyn Omey and Nora Marquez.

The Family will greet friends from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on February 10, 2021 at Scenic Chapel in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

The graveside service for Ruth Wood will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Tularosa on February 11, 2021 at 2:00pm with Billy Tucker officiating.

Due to the COVID Pandemic, occupancy at the visitation is limited to no more than 5 people at a time. Further, attendance at the graveside is limited to 5 people as well. Please practice social distancing at all times. Thank you for adhering to the Department of Health mandate.
