Ozelle Merrell, 91, passed away on January 11, 2017, in her home in the mountains of Cloudcroft, New Mexico. She was born on January 9th, 1926, in Merkel, Texas to Carl and Lola Higgins.
Ozelle married Joseph Henry Merrell July 16th, 1942, in Lubbock, TX. She worked as an office manager for a medical practice for a number of years and later owned her own business doing interior design for clients. Most importantly, she was a devoted and caring wife, daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. In addition to dedication to her family, she always showed a strong zeal for the Lord and her church family. Ozelle was a long time member at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock Tx, and, after she decided to move to Cloudcroft, found a new church family with Cloudcroft United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her son Larry M. Merrell of Dallas, TX, daughter-in-law, Paula Merrell of Cloudcroft; four grandsons, Dustin Merrell of Temple, TX, Stephen Merrell of Odessa, TX, Michael Merrell and wife Meredith of Arlington, TX and Joseph Merrell of Odessa, TX; five great-grandchildren, Austin, Josh, Bryson, Kaelyn, and Ethan.
She was preceded in death by parents Carl and Lola Higgins, sister Elva Mae Young, husband Joseph Merrell, and son Gary Merrell.
The family will greet friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, January 13th, 2017, at Cloudcroft United Methodist Church.
The Memorial Service will be held at Cloudcroft United Methodist Church at 11:00 am Friday, January 13, 2017, with Pastor Judy Shema, officiating.
Interment will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday January 14th, 2017, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Lubbock, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cloudcroft First United Methodist Church, Cloudcroft Senior Center, or Sacramento Assistance Program for Roadrunner Distribution.
The Merrell family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
