Mildred "Missy" Jayne Swann, 81, passed away on May 30, 2025 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She was born on April 22, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to Maj Robert James Olshaskie and Mildred Jayne (Morgan) Olshaskie. She married MSGT William "Bill" Swann on October 20, 1962.
She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus, and loved to read the Bible. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a volunteer with hospice, lover of US history (especially the Civil War). She loved her children and subsequent grands and great-grands with all her heart. She was extremely focused. She was an uncompromising Christmas gift purchaser for her children/grandchildren/great grandchildren, making sure an equal amount was spent on each. She was a secret agent for Mr Flower (Elf on a Shelf before there was an Elf on a Shelf). She was a great conversationalist, known for her sneaky quick wit even in her very last days and known as a very sweet and kind lady.
Early in life, Missy was a Certified Nurse's Assistant, and then for a few years was a department store retail associate, her final position of employment was as an Administrative Assistant for First Command Financial.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Millie Olshaskie, and her brother, Robert "Doc" Olshaskie.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, MSGT William L. Swann USAF retired of Alamogordo; her children, Sam and his wife, Brenda Swann of Las Cruces, NM; Andy and his wife, Cathy Swann of Tempe, AZ; and Tristen Swann of Las Cruces, NM; her sister, Bethel and Tim Williams of San Diego, CA; her sister-in-law, Cathy Olshaskie of Ruicoso Downs, NM; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A memorial service for Missy Swann will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, June 16, 2025 at Scenic Chapel.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Missy. Having walked the difficult road alongside her beloved father as he battled Alzheimer’s, it was a cause very near and dear to her heart.
