Mary Alice Cleaveland

Mary Alice (Mills) Cleaveland, 68, of Alamogordo, NM, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully Thursday April 21, 2016.

Mary was born in Hot Springs (T or C), NM on May 18, 1947 to William O. Mills, Sr. and Hazel Wright Mills. She married the love of her life James (Jim) Cleaveland on May 24, 1969.

She was preceded in death by her mother Hazel, father William Sr., two brothers, William Mills, Jr. and Gary Mills, and one sister Pat Tapper.

Mary is survived by her husband James L. Cleaveland, her brother Paul D. Mills of Las Vegas, NV, her children, daughter Susanne M. Tobine and husband John, and son James L. Cleaveland, Jr., all of Altoona, FL, and granddaughters Christina Periko and her husband Justin of DeLand, FL and Crystal Tobine of Altoona, Fl, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Family meant absolutely everything to Mary. Her husband, children and grandchildren were the most important things in her life. She loved traveling. Her favorite travels included visits to see her family. She also loved to help her husband with his long- standing racing hobby. She could always be found at the local racetracks with a quiet smile and a friendly "hello". She touched many lives with her gentle, caring heart and she will forever be missed by many.

A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 116 Hwy 82 in Alamogordo on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 2:00 PM. The family welcomes all of Mary's dear friends and family to come share memories of how she enriched the lives of everyone she met.

The Cleaveland family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
