Major Nelson Lee Sears

Major Nelson Lee Sears, 45, of Salado Texas passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. He was a beloved husband, father, son and brother. Nelson was born on June 30, 1976 to James and Glenda (Reynolds) Sears in Atchison, KS. He grew up in Missouri until he was 13 and then his family moved to Alamogordo, NM. After graduating from Alamogordo High School, he joined the Army National Guard at the age of 17. He graduated from CMSU in 1999 at which time he was commissioned as Nelson L. Sears II Lieutenant of the United States Army. He served his country for 23 years and was deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan. 

Nelson is survived by his wife, Amber Sears (McNider); his daughters, Madison, Lilly, Isabella and Amelia; his parents, James and Glenda Sears of Alamogordo, NM; grandmother, JoAnne McElwain of Platte City, MO; grandmother, Mary Reynolds of Kansas City, MO; siblings, Tubalcain (Erica) Sears of Rio Rancho, NM, Tabitha (Mike) Ament of Cheyenne, WY and Leah Freeman of Cloudcroft, NM; and multiple nieces and nephews.

Nelson was preceded in death by his grandfather, Raymond Reynolds; grandfather, Thomas Sears and grandmother Francis Sears; and two brothers, Stephen and Andrew Sears.

The funeral for Nelson will be Saturday August, 28, 2021 starting with visitation at 10:00am and followed by his services at 11:00am. Both are held at the 3C Cowboy Fellowship (16258 Gooseneck Rd. Salado, Texas, 76571). Nelson will be laid to rest at 10:00am on Monday August 30, 2021 at the Bread of Life Cemetery (5562 S. 54 Hwy, Alamogordo, New Mexico, 88310).

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.

He is being cared for by Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas and Scenic Chapel (formerly Hamilton O’Dell Funeral Home) of Alamogordo, New Mexico.
