Magdalena "Lena" (Baca) Castorena, 86, passed away on February 8, 2021, in Alamogordo. She was born on February 2, 1935 in Grant County, New Mexico to Vidal and Maria (Chacon) Baca.
Lena graduated from Western High School in Silver City, NM in 1952 and went on to Western New Mexico University where she met and married the love of her life, Bill Castorena on August 4, 1956. Lena graduated from WNMU with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1956 and a Master of Arts in Elementary Education in 1961.
Survivors include her two sons, William E. (Rosie A.) Castorena of El Paso, TX and James R. Castorena of El Paso, TX; daughter, Linda J. Castorena of Alamogordo, NM; 6 grandchildren, Jose Castorena (Amanda), Billy Castorena (Kassandra), Joshua Castorena, Ashley Marquez, Yesenia Castorena, Derek Castorena and five great grandchildren, Noah Castorena, Emma Lena Castorena, Skyla Castorena, Liam Castorena and Logan Castorena.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Castorena; her parents, Vidal and Maria Baca; a special aunt and uncle who raised her, Manuel and Manuela Carrillo and her sister Julia Hernandez.
The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 p.m.on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Scenic Chapel.
Graveside services for Magdalena Castorena will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 12, 202 at Monte Vista Cemetery. With the restrictions on attendance to five people, there will be an FM transmitter for people to listen to in their cars.
Pallbearers include William E. Castorena, James R. Castorena, Derek Castorena, Joseph Castorena, Billy Castorena and Joshua Castorena.
The family would like to thank all of the staff members of the Aristrocrat for their exceptional love and care. They would also like to extend a big thank you to Sharon Weaver and the staff at Alamogordo Hospice.
Due to the COVID Pandemic, occupancy at the visitation is limited to no more than 5 people at a time. Further, attendance at the graveside is limited to 5 people as well. Please practice social distancing at all times. Thank you for adhering to the Department of Health mandate.
The Castorena family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel to direct the funeral services.
