Linda Kennedy Obituary

Linda Kennedy, 74, passed away on May 3, 2017 in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

Linda Pickard Colwell was born on June 14, 1942 in Santa Monica, California to Frank Winslow Colwell and Ruth Carmen Pickard. Linda lived in Brentwood, California most of her childhood with her parents and sister, Barbara. Linda's father, Frank, was a draftsman for Douglas Aircraft and her mother, Ruth, was a performer in the well-known Pickard Family Singers. They performed on national radio during the Great Depression, and later had a television show where Linda appeared.

After graduating from University High School in Los Angeles, Linda attended Whittier College and Brigham Young University. She married Patrick Kennedy in December of 1965. They moved to Alexandria, Virginia where Linda worked as a technical writer supporting aerospace engineers. When Pat began his Marine Corps service, they moved to North Carolina where their first child, Shannon, was born. When Pat's military service ended, they moved to Clovis, New Mexico, where Pat's grandparents resided and where their son, Michael, was born.

Linda enjoyed being a mother and homemaker and was active in church and community activities. She worked as a part time baker, secretary and deli worker.

Linda and Pat moved to Texas to be close to Shannon and her first three children. When Shannon remarried and moved to California, Pat and Linda returned to New Mexico.

During every phase of her life, Linda has been known to be supremely selfless, enthusiastic and cheerful under all circumstances.

Survivors include her husband, PatrickKennedy, her son, Michael Jared (Laura Schmedlen) Kennedy of Portland, OR; daughter, Shannon Rebecca (David) Smith of Logan, UT; sister, Barbara Cameron of Vancouver, BC, Canada; three granddaughters, Violet Kennedy of Portland, OR, Amanda Smith of Provo, UT, Emily Kuresa of Logan, UT; grandson, Aaron McDonald of Logan, UT; great-granddaughter, Aiden Kuresa of Logan, UT; three great-grandsons, Connor Kuresa of Logan, UT, Emmett Kuresa of Logan, UT, Enoch McDonald of Logan, UT;

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank and mother, Ruth.

The funeral service for Linda Kennedy will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday May 9, 2017 at the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Ladder Day Saints - Cloudcroft with John Bell officiating.

Burial will follow at James Canyon Cemetery.

Should friends desire, contributions may be made in Linda's honor to the Nature Conservancy.

The Kennedy family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
