Lavern Sattelberg Obituary

MSgt (R) Lavern (Vern) Robert Sattelberg (Jr), 72 passed away January 1st, 2021 surrounded by his family in Angier, NC.

Born in Lockport, New York on May 23, 1948 to Lavern (SR) and Betty Sattelberg, Vern lived in Newfane, NY until he joined the Air Force in 1968.  Vern retired from the Air Force after 20 years of dedicated service.  During his time in the Air Force, Vern found and married his bride Sharon and raised his two boys, Ryan and Eric.

After his retirement from the Air Force, Vern worked his next 25 years as a contractor, supporting several different missions working with the T-38’s and F-4’s at Holloman Air Force Base.  In 2015, Vern finally retired and would spend as much time as he could with his three grand children (Audrey, Jackson, Reese).  When he was not spending time with family, he would be found at the Holloman golf course with his golfing buddies.  Vern and Sharon supported both of their boys during their time in the Army and would travel around the world visiting them wherever they were serving at the time.

Vern spent much of his time volunteering throughout the community, especially with supporting the numerous sporting events Ryan and Eric participated in.  He volunteered with the local pee-wee football league, Babe Ruth baseball, and throughout several high school sports.  Vern spent over 20 years volunteering with the La Luz Volunteer Fire Department rising to the rank of Assistant Chief.

Vern will be remembered as a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather.  He cherished his family and instilled strong family values in everyone.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lavern (SR) and Betty Sattelberg.

Vern leaves behind a beautiful family- survived by his wife of forty-three years TSgt (R) Sharon of Angier, NC, his sons SGM (R) Ryan Sattelberg (Sarah) of Holly Springs, NC and MAJ Eric Sattelberg (Kirk) of Wiesbaden Germany, and his grandchildren, Audrey, Jackson, and Reese Sattelberg.  He is also survived by his sisters Gertrude (Kevin) Stahl of Middleport, NY, Norma (Frank) Lown of Newfane, NY, and Christine Sattelberg of Newfane, NY as well as several nieces and nephews.
