Joe David Haley, 77, passed away on February 1, 2025, in Alamogordo, NM. He was born on October 14, 1947, in Ranger, TX to Pink and Ruth (Davis) Haley. He was the middle son of three boys. Roy was the oldest (now deceased) and Charles the youngest.
He attended the school in Olden, TX. After graduating in 1966, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1969. He spent time at Bergstrom Air Force Base, Austin, TX and was stationed for a time in Iceland and Aviano, Italy. His final station was at Holloman Air Force Base, Alamogordo, NM. He worked with Transient Alert and the T-38's until his retirement in 1989. After retiring, Joe attended college at NMSU-A in Alamogordo. He earned three associate degrees in electronics and computers. He had a unique graduation for one of the associate degrees. As he came off the stage from receiving his diploma, he was kissed by one of the professors of NMSU-A (his wife).
One of his favorite activities was to have the chance to play 42 with friends and family. He also enjoyed teaching people to play a game known as Cowboy Checkers. He was a champion and could not be beat at Cowboy Checkers.
Survivors include his wife, Elise Haley; his brother, Charles Matthew Haley; niece, Shanna; nephew, Scott; and cousins from the Stephenville, Tx area and other family. He is also survived by a chosen grandson, Aaron Hunt, and Aaron's wife, Angela, and chosen great grandkids, Alyssa, Logan and Nathan, as well as a special friend, Bernie Sanchez.
A memorial service for Joe Haley will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 6:30 PM at the Church of Christ off of First Street next to the Boys and Girls Club.
