Jessie Mae "Geege" Hurdis passed away on December 22, 2017. She was born October 23, 1919 in Gonzales County, Texas to Jesse and Ella Mae Preston. The family moved to Bandera, Texas in 1931 where she completed high school. She then moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico where she met and married John Hurdis on June 11, 1947.
Geege and John began their lives together by traveling cross country to meet his parents in Rhode Island. After returning from Rhode Island, they continued their adventure by sailing to Hawaii for John's new job with Dole. While in Hawaii, they were blessed with their son Thomas. They remained in Hawaii for 30 years.
After leaving Hawaii they returned home to Las Cruces, New Mexico where she was an active member of the Methodist Church. After John's passing, she moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico to be closer to her son, Tom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hurdis; her parents, Jesse and Ella Mae Preston; and siblings: Christelle Williams of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Roberta Farney of Waco, Texas; Joe Preston of Bandera, Texas; Verne Preston of Nixon, Texas; Wilobel and Ruth Billings both of Bandera, Texas.
She is survived by her son, Tom Hurdis, of High Rolls, New Mexico; numerous nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends. Her family members would like to express their gratitude to Victoria Garcia for her outstanding care and support of Geege over the last few years.
A graveside service will held at Masonic Cemetery in Las Cruces, New Mexico on January 2, 2017 at 2:00 PM.
Remembrances may be made to a charity of choice.
