Isabel, “Izzy” Benson (Velasco), age 49, was called to serve our Lord on 13 August 2021.
Isabel was born on January 30, 1972 to Juan and Presiliana Velasco in Tularosa, NM and grew up in Alamogordo, NM. She graduated from Alamogordo Senior High School in 1990. Shortly after graduation, she married Simon Benson, 10 July 1992 and a few years later, they welcomed their daughter Ariel on 10 January 1997.
Isabel is preceded in death by her father, Juan F. Velasco. She is survived by her mother, Presiliana Velasco (Avila); her brothers, Juan F. Velasco Jr. (nephews Juan Velasco III and Gabriel Velasco), Alonzo Velasco. (nephew Andrew Velasco and niece Amelia Velasco) and Saul Velasco (s) Angelica Velasco. (nephews Mykel Velasco and Scotti Velasco and nieces Jordan Patterson (Velasco) and Alondra Ortiz); her sister, Yolanda Velasco-Romero (s) George I. Romero (nephews Estevan Velasco and Christian Romero, nieces Patricia Romero and Monica Romero). As well as numerous extended family members, aunts, uncles, cousins, and great nephews and nieces.
Isabel was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She worked countless jobs at one time to be able to provide for her family. Aside from working, Isabel was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Punta Gorda, FL. She was a member of the choir, sharing her talent and love of singing to the community. Isabel had a beautiful soul that could brighten up any room, and would assist anyone who was in need of help. She will be missed, but will not be forgotten as her memory lives on in us all.
Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Thursday, 2 September 2021 with Father Martin Cornejo, Celebrant. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am and Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Juan Velasco III, Gabriel Velasco, Andrew Velasco, Scotti Velasco, Richard Neussendorfer, and Luis Velasco Jr.
The Benson/Velasco family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel to direct the funeral services.
