Hellon Resendez Obituary

Hellon Mashburn Resendez, 88, passed away at the family residence in Alamogordo, New Mexico on November 4, 2021. She was born September 15, 1933 in La France, South Carolina to parents, both deceased, Gilbert and Vera (Hammond) Mashburn. She married her husband SMgst Guadalupe (Wiley) Resendez in 1972 while he was stationed at Charleston AFB, South Carolina as a Supply Computer Analyst, and where she also was employed as a supply computer operator. They moved to Alamogordo, NM, Holloman AFB the same year. Hellon continued her civil service career at Holloman where she held several employment positions finally retiring in 1984 as a Systems Supply Manager. When her husband retired in 1997, they decided to make Alamogordo their final home.

Her family was first and center in her life. She was blessed with having grandchildren while she was still a relatively young person and was able to spend a great amount of time with them. Her joy was being able to pick them up on Friday afternoon and keep them for the weekend. As they grew up and became interested in sports, she and her husband attended all their games. She never missed any of their birthdays from T-ball to high school games. She would visit South Carolina as often as she could where her other children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren lived. Hellon was an avid Bridge player and organized many Bridge clubs. In 1997 when her husband retired, they found a new love in Recreational Vehicle (RV) traveling. They traveled to or through 44 states, western Canada, and the Baja of Mexico. She was a devout Christian and attended Bethel Baptist Church for over thirty years until her illness hindered her attendance.

She is survived by her husband Wiley, three daughters: Jackie (Sonny) Singletary from Lexington, SC, Machele Lackey from Timberon, NM, and Beverly (Rodney) Coons from Summerville, SC; nine grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren. Jesus Christ and her family were the light of her life.
