On February 22,2022, Our Almighty God called for one of his angels. Helen was born February 19,1951, to Alfredo and Candelaria Najera. Helen passed away at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Alfredo and Candelaria Najera; son, David Maynez; brother, Joe Najera; sister, Cecilia Najera (passing at birth).
She is survived by her husband, Miguel Maynez; son, Arthur Maynez; daughters, Isabelle (Tito) Rios, Victoria (John) Washington, Leticia Maynez; (38) grandchildren and (11) great-grandchildren. Surviving her were numerous nieces, nephews, brother and sister in-laws. Also surviving are siblings, Maria Najera, Juan (Eduvina) Najera, twin brother and her second heart, James (Adelina) Najera, and Catherine (Bud) Duryea.
Helen started her family at a very young age. Along with raising her children Helen had additional careers. She worked as a cook, a housekeeper and a health care provider working at such facilities as APS schools, NMSU-A, International Business College, Betty Dare Nursing Home, Colston Foundation Primate Facility at HAFB and Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center. After leaving Gerald Champion Helen went to work as a health-care giver for quite a few people in the Alamogordo area, to name a few Mr. Herbert Callaway, Mr. Bob Hamilton, Alice Agnew, Petra Golightly, Mary Work and Judge Henley. Helen was praised by all her clients for the care she provided. She always treated them as family to the point of bringing them into her home.
Along with being an excellent mother, wife and working full time, at many times you could find Helen in her kitchen exercising her culinary skills whether it was cooking for her family or cooking and serving people who were in need no matter what the circumstances were. Along with her previously mentioned skills, her crafting/sewing skills were also well known as witnessed if you ever visited her home. Helen loved decorating, creating most of the decor herself.
Heaven has welcomed an Angel who will be missed here at home. Sisters, Mothers, Wives are special people. It's been said that on their journey to heaven all the years and illnesses fall away. When they arrive, they are young and vibrant once again. By now Helen has been fitted with glorious Angel wings the very ones that she will use often to visit us in our thoughts and in our dreams.
Cremation has already taken place.
