Franklin King

Franklin D. King, age 89, passed from this life on July 13, 2022, in Alamogordo, NM.  Franklin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris C. King of Alamogordo, NM; 1 brother Kenneth King of Cabot, AR; 1 sister-in-law Rebecca Carroll of Alamogordo, NM; 2 sons Dean King and his wife Linda of Chamberino, NM and Robert King and his wife Kelly of Tyler, TX; 2 grandchildren Greg Littlejohn and his wife Sharleen and Jean Marie Strother and her husband Cameron; 3 great grandchildren Spencer Littlejohn, Austin Littlejohn and his wife Ashley, and Finley Strother; 2 great-great grandchildren Julia Virginia and Aaron James Littlejohn; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.  

Franklin was born on July 1, 1933 in Caruthersville, MO to parents Ferd and Laura King. He graduated from Caruthersville High in 1950.  After graduation Franklin enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as an aircraft engine mechanic during the Korean War with the 9th Fighter Bomb Squadron.  He Honorably separated from the Air Force in1954, at Parks Air Force Base, California.  On May 13, 1954 Franklin married Doris, the love of his life. (They had actually met when they were in the 4th grade, completed school and graduated together in 1950). During their marriage he worked and retired in 1988 from the United States Post Office in Artesia, NM. He also coached Babe Ruth Baseball for 15 years while living in Artesia.  Franklin was a man of many trades: carpentry, tile, carpet, car mechanic and Formica work.  In addition, Franklin loved to fish and watch and listen to the St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball. 

A family goodbye is scheduled for 10:00am, Tuesday July 19, 2022 at Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo, NM.  

The King family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel to direct the services.
