Dorothy May (Epps) Kidd passed away November 20, 2017, at Wilson N Jones hospital in Sherman, Texas. She was born May 22,1926, to Trice and Jewel Epps in Quanah, Texas. She was the sixth of ten children. After graduating from Quanah High School, she worked for the Katy railroad in Dallas. In September, 1944, Dorothy married her childhood sweetheart, Earl Jennings Kidd, Jr. before he shipped out to the Pacific . Because it was wartime and Earl was an only child, she lived with his parents in Gainesville until he returned.
In 1946 Earl and Dorothy moved with their young daughter and his parents to Alamogordo, New Mexico. Earl and Dorothy built two grocery stores and owned other property in the area. They retired to the family fruit orchard which they made into their own private resort with a pool, fishing, and a 5-hole golf course. The whole family loved it. They also loved to travel in their motor home and playing golf across the United States.
Dorothy moved to Pecan Point in Sherman a year ago to be closer to her daughter. She is survived by her daughter Sherry Collins and her husband, Bob of Denison, Tx; son Jon and his wife Sherry Lee of Alamogordo; and son Robert and his wife, Vicky Sue of Ft. Worth. Surviving grandchildren are Vicki Escajeda of Oklahoma City; Bob Collins, Jr of Wise, VA; Joe Kidd of Alamogordo, NM; Randi Riordan of The Colony, TX; and Lacey Kidd of Ft. Worth. She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in 1999 as well as all of her brothers and sisters except for Anita Hairston and her husband, Bill of Arlington, TX.
The funeral will be at Hamilton-Odell Funeral home, Alamogordo, NM, at 10:00, Saturday, November 25. Brother Marvin Hayes will officiate. Visitation will be at Hamilton-Odell at 9:00 before the service. Pall bearers will be Jon Kidd, Robert Kidd, Joe Kidd, Bob Collins, Waddell Maupin, and Kerry Maupin. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to your favorite charity.
