Dee Gragg

Dee lived the last 53 years of his life in Alamogordo where he was a fixture in many sports.  He helped to start the Church Softball League and sponsored, managed and coached the well-known Bandiditas Girls Softball team.  Dee was also the #1 fan of the White Sands PupFish Professional Baseball team where he provided generous support for players who scored or struck out the other team.

Dee served our country in the Army, helping the United States keep South Korea free.  He earned his BS in Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and became a Professional Engineer.  He worked at Sandia Labs in Albuquerque and later came to stay at Holloman Air Force Base.  He was a Systems Analyst at the High-Speed Test Track, among other things, testing ejection systems for the newest air fighters.

Dee was very active in his home church, Bethel Baptist in Alamogordo.  He served as a deacon as well as chairman of almost every committee at one time or another serving under numerous pastors.  He taught classes for youth and adults.  He also taught young people to deliver speeches for the Annual Speakers Tournament with local, regional, and state competitions. 

In the last years, Dee was active in the local writer’s group and in NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees).  He was a big fan of woman’s softball, volleyball, and tennis at the local high school and at NMSU.  He was always dressed out for the occasion and never missed a chance to shout an “Arriba” to one of the girls by name when they did a great job!

Dee is preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Bessie Gragg, and his brother Gary Gragg. 

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Sue Gragg of Alamogordo, NM and two sons, James Dee Gragg and David Lee Gragg both in Northglenn Colorado.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren, one of whom is yet to be named.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church, 1316 N Scenic Dr, Alamogordo, NM 80201. 

The Gragg family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel to direct the funeral services.
