D. L. "Dave" Ayers -Born: October 4, 1922 in Lubbock County, Texas to Irvy and Lillie May Ayers, both deceased. Brother, Cecil, deceased. Sister, Laurette, deceased.
-Death: May 9, 2017, in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
-Spouse: Adelina Mendoza Ayers, living.
-Children: (8) Kerry Ayers, deceased, from Grand Prairie, Texas. Kelly Maureen Ayers Randall, living, from Grand Prairie, Texas. Robert Mendoza, living, from Fort Washington, Maryland. Carlos Mendoza, living, from Phoenix, Arizona. Nina Mendoza Tiaga, living, from Round Hill, Virginia. David Mendoza McFarland, living, from Bristow, Virginia. Bill McFarland, living, from Summerville, South Carolina. Anita McFarland Houston, living, from Midland, Texas.
-Grandchildren: 23
-Great Grandchildren: 17
-Military Service: U.S. Marines, 1941-1945, where he fought in WWII. U.S. Army, 1955-1980, where he fought in the Korean and Viet Nam (3 tours) Wars. He was a prisoner of war in Korea, and escaped. He retired from the army as a Sergeant First Class. He received numerous medals for his service, and was a true patriot to our country.
-After the Military: Served as Fire Chief for the Timberon, New Mexico, Fire Department from 1995-2000. Lifelong Member of the VFW in El Paso, Texas, Timberon, New Mexico, and Alamogordo, New Mexico.

The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Alamogordo, with Pastor Kristi Koppel officiating. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery, with Military services, in Alamogordo. The Ayers family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, and if you desire, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project Organization or the United States Marine Corp League- Zia Detachment 850 of Otero County.
