Clinton Dale McElheny, 91, passed away at his home on March 22, 2021 in Alamogordo, New Mexico after a long and productive life. He was born in Newport Beach, California on April 25, 1929 to Clinton B. and Emma McElheny. He spent his childhood in Sacramento, San Diego, and San Fernando, California. He spent 4 years in the US Navy in Korea and Japan. He went to college at Los Angeles, Taft, and San Luis Obispo, California. He was married on August 27, 1955 to Doris Jean Lewis. He was a long-time employee of Ampex Corporation. He and his wife moved to High Rolls in 1965 where they raised their family of 3 sons.
He spent many volunteer hours with various organizations such as High Rolls Teen Club, Lions Club, Toastmasters, Boy Scouts, and High Rolls Fire Department. He was a Master Mason with the Tularosa Masonic Lodge and Taft Masonic Lodge and volunteered his time with Rainbow Girls and DeMolay. He and his wife spent many enjoyable evenings with the square dance club, Alamo Squares and other clubs in the area.
Clint always told people to "Behave yourself". And if you answered "That's no fun." He would answer "Well, you can have fun but just don't get caught!" So if you ever heard that, that was Clint. He was a friendly and sociable person who could go into a quiet room where he knew nobody and when he left the room, everyone was talking and laughing. And he was telling them to "behave" themselves.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; son, Steve and wife Teresa; son, Scott and long-time partner Tina; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Ryan, and by his parents.
There will be a family get-together and unfortunately, Covid 19 is preventing a larger gathering. He was and is greatly loved and will truly be missed by family and friends.
The McElheny family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel
