Bobbie Virden Obituary
It is with heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our mother, Bobbie Virden on August 19, 2024.
Bobbie Dean Swanson Virden was born to Garvis and Mable Swanson on August 2, 1937, in Ruidoso New Mexico. She is predeceased by her husband Dan Eugene Virden, her parents, her brothers Dewitt and David Swanson, grandson Ben Virden and granddaughter Erin Virden. She is survived by her sister Gloria Swanson Attix.
Bobbie and Dan are the parents of five children, Richard Eugene (Carol), Dana Lynn (Brian Burks), Roy Dan, Russell Alan (Melanie), and Robert Keith (Danell). In addition to her five children, Bobbie is survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and one precious great-great-granddaughter.
She was raised in Tularosa New Mexico where she attended grade school and high school. In her adult life, Bobbie was a true proponent of education and its benefits. She held several degrees and was a teacher, principal, and associate superintendent for the Alamogordo Public Schools. She joined the service organization Kiwanis and rose to the rank of Governor. She was also a long-time member of the Tularosa Order of the Eastern Stars.
Bobbie was a skilled artisan, creating beautiful paintings, quilts, clothing and afghans. But her favorite pastime was traveling the world. She traveled to every country that she was legally allowed to visit. She traveled so much that she became a tour guide for several of the excursions that she was fond of revisiting.
A graveside memorial service will be held on September 7, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Tularosa Cemetery.
The Virden family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel for funeral services.
