Bettie Jean Brock Smith

Bettie Jean Brock Smith, 88, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, with her daughter and grandson close by.

Bettie was born September 14, 1933 in Dodd City, Texas, to John V. and Myrtle V. (Edwards) Bridges.  She attended Sam Houston Elementary in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from North Dallas High School, Dallas, Texas, in June 1951.  Bettie attended two junior colleges; Northlake and Cisco in North Texas.  She also attended Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas.  Bettie enrolled in specialty classes at the University of Texas for Nursing Home Administration.  She obtained her Texas Realtors License through Northlake College in Irving, Texas.

Survivors include her daughter, Jonna Irick and her husband, Steve, and their son, Jonathan of Alamogordo; her son, Jon F. Burgess and his wife Traci of Weatherford, Texas; her stepdaughter, Trudy Brock Routh and her husband Bob of Las Cruces, New Mexico; her granddaughter Tasha Burgess Hanson and her children Sage and Jackson of Weatherford, Texas; her grandson Justin Lee Burgess of Weatherford, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, L.C. Bridges; and husbands, Jack F. Burgess, Gene T. Brock, James E. Riggs and Gerald D. Smith.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, May 6, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2960 N. Scenic Dr., with Senior Pastor Timothy Brock and Pastor Vic Williford officiating.

Interment will follow in the White Dove of the Desert Cemetery, located on the grounds of Christ Community Church.

Pallbearers will be Pastor Tyler Grace, Pastor P.K. Koehne, Pastor Eric Lucero, Pastor Louie Olivas, Shawn Oswalt and Barry Ouderkirk.  Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Davis, Harry MacNeill, Ted McCutcheon, Bill Pippin, Perry Rust and John Sears.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Bettie's name to Christ Community Church, 2960 N Scenic Drive, Alamogordo, New Mexico.

The family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel, 1334 N. Scenic Dr., Alamogordo, NM  575-437-0530 to direct the funeral services.
