Armando "Mando" Lugo Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Armando “Mando” Lugo, age 60. He was born in El Paso, TX on August 29th, 1963 and left this world peacefully with his family by side on July 14th, 2024.

Armando is survived by his wife of nine years, Yolanda Gallegos Lugo, his father Manuel Lugo, his two sisters Olga Deal and Veronica Weleilekaba (Taito Weleilekaba), brother David Lugo, his parents-in-law Mike and Yolanda Gallegos, sisters-in law Cecy Dorado (Antonio Dorado), Cristina Barbosa (Rudy Barbosa), Marina Gallegos (Paul Wilkie), and Maribel Candela (Gene Candela).

He is further survived by his children, Marisela Russell (Rodney Russell), Emilio Alonzo Jr and Celeste Saldana (Austin Saldana). Grandchildren, Makenzie Russell, Makayla Russell, Rodney Russell, Amira Saldana, numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Armando adored them all. He is also survived by various Lugo-Medina family members in Las Cruces, NM, various Ramos-Lugo family members in El Paso, TX and Juarez, Mexico, and various Gallegos family members in Alamogordo, NM. They all loved and adored him more than words could ever express.

Armando will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving son, father, brother, uncle, friend, and son-in-law. He served in the Army for 3 years, and worked hard in construction, masonry work, building custom homes and as a welder. Armando was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. Mainly, he was an avid cook who loved spending his spare time cooking for and laughing with family and friends. A favorite hobby of his was growing vegetables with his grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Lugo, his aunts, Maria Ramos Lugo and Concepcion Medina. He was well loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed by many. 

Armando fue un gran hombre, esposo, y un gran hijo. Siempre en nuestros corazones, recordándolo por toda la vida con mucho amor. De parte de sus suegros Mike y Yolanda Gallegos.

Special thanks to his cousins Armando Medina, Henry Medina, Manuel Medina, Ray and Roselena Alvara; Jose Miguel and Karina Perez; his parents-in-law and sisters-in-law.  Each one devotedly visited Armando every day while he was at Memorial Hospital. They also kindly provided meals and drinks for the family.

 

The family will greet friends from 5-7 pm and pray the Holy Rosary at 6:30pm on Friday, August 30th, 2024 at Scenic Chapel, 1334 N. Scenic Dr, Alamogordo, NM.

Visitation will start at 9:30 am and Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 31st, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 705 Delaware Ave, Alamogordo, NM with Father Martin Cornejo officiating.  Burial with military honors will take place following Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, 1300 E. First St, Alamogordo, NM.  Reception will follow at 1:00 pm at St. Jude Parish Hall, 1404 College Ave, Alamogordo, NM. The Lugo and Gallegos family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel to direct the funeral services.
