March 7, 1943 ~ January 17, 2023 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Presiliana Velasco Obituary

Presiliana Avila Velasco, 79 peacefully went to the Lord on January 17, 2023. She was born in Alamogordo, NM, March 7, 1943 to Leonardo and Trinidad (Chavez) Avila. 

Presiliana was a wife and mother who dearly loved her children, grand and great grand Kids. She enjoyed making meals for her children and eventually the grand children. As a caregiver either through church child care programs or at her home, surmounted hundreds of children that know her as "Mommy Prissy".

She also volunteered for the Otero Country Elections Polls throughout her years in Alamogordo.

Her favorite meals were Spanish rice, red chili, pinto beans, with pork and homemade flour tortillas all of which were a staple in her home. She was also known to make delicious homemade pancakes, as big as the kid’s heads. She supported her children and was a true educator by taking them to summer reading programs at the library and helped with homework. She loved to attend her children's sporting events from baseball, basketball, cross country and track. 

She enjoyed that her children were active in the arts such as in the Tiger Marching Band and Choir by attended every concert as a full supporter of all their achievements. This also continued on with her grandchildren through band, choir and dance. 

She was a bit of a perfectionist and taught her children to take care of themselves by doing laundry, ironing, making beds and perfecting hospital corners along with her specialty of folding clothes and towels. 

Presiliana achieved her GED Diploma and while the children were in middle school. Numerous years later, she attended New Mexico State University in Alamogordo to complete her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Child Development.

She also enjoyed baking pies, cakes, and cookies for The ICC Fiesta which was hard work but much enjoyed by all of the parishioners and families.

She had numerous friends and family having grown up in Alamogordo and she will be dearly missed.

Survivors include. Her sons, Juan F. Velasco Jr., Alonzo Velasco, and Saul Velasco; daughter, Yolanda Romero; grandchildren, Juan F. Velasco III, Gabriel Velasco, Mykel Velasco, Amelia Velasco, Estevan Romero, Andrew Velasco, Patricia Romero, Jordan (Velasco) Patterson, Ariel Benson, Christian Romero, Scotti Velasco, Monica Romero, Alondra Velasco; great grandchildren, Addison Craine, Jionni Patterson, Ailani Patterson, Richard (Roro) Patterson, Mykela Velasco; and sister, Margaret Vigil.

She is presided in death by her husband, Juan F. Velasco of 52 years; her father, Leonardo Avila and mother, Trinidad Avila; sisters, Anita Arenas, Donanciana Hill, Adelina Sandoval, Carmen Brusuelas, Maria Elena Gonzalez; brothers, Leonardo Avila Jr. Joe Avila, Luis Avila, Johnny Avila and Pedro Avila; and daughter, Isabel Benson. 

A special thank you for the hospital staff of Gerald Memorial Hospital who cared for her at the wounds clinic; eHabit Home Care and Hospice who tended to her physical therapy. She held a special place in her heart for all of their love and support.

Services for Presiliana will be on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Church, 705 Delaware Ave, Alamogordo, NM. Viewing 9:00 am, Rosary will be recited by Linda Villabisencio at 10:30 am and Mass will be at 11:00 am.

The Velasco family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel to direct the services.
